Description
The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 aim to protect the health of people who work with DSE. The Regulations were introduced because DSE has become one of the most common kinds of work equipment.
Health risks associated with DSE include fatigue, eye strain, upper limb problems and backache. This can be due to over or improper use of DSE or poorly designed workstations.
Effective ergonomics has been proven to reduce the potential for accidents, injury and ill health and to improve performance and productivity. Small changes and interventions can have important results.
This DSE Training course introduces users to a comfortable sitting posture and correct keyboard and mouse techniques. In addition, the importance of a personally organised workstation is explained. Regular movement and stretching can be beneficial to alleviate postural strain. The course also describes the importance of eyestrain prevention and a company eyesight policy. The correct use of laptops and mobile phones is essential to prevent personal injury.
After completion of the DSE Training course, users undertake a risk assessment which aims to help the user resolve potential issues and ill health due to the use of DSE and associated equipment. The risk assessment, once completed must be saved or printed off and handed to the relevant member of staff for appropriate action. If not saved, it will not be accessible later.
