Description

Asbestos is a natural non-flammable, flexible, durable and malleable material which has been used in construction for centuries. However, in recent years, working with Asbestos has been linked with severe health risks. When disturbed, asbestos releases fibres into the air. If then inhaled, these fibres can cause serious and sometimes fatal lung diseases (for example, Mesothelioma, Asbestos-related lung cancer, Asbestosis and Pleural thickening).  These diseases can take decades to develop and as Asbestos was not banned in the UK until late 1999, any employee who worked in buildings built before this date, could be at risk.

According to the  Health and Safety Executive  (HSE), asbestos kills 20 tradesmen every week in the UK.

2 reviews for Asbestos Awareness

  1. Rebecca W.

This course is a must for everyone in the construction industry. I was aware of asbestos in the workplace but this hammered it home.

  2. Pam R.

Very informative. Although awareness is always there, it is always good to have issues and dangers reviewed just to highlight the severity
