Description

The Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) states that:

“There are sound commercial, legal and reputational reasons why organisations should keep security under constant review.”

“The threat from terrorism to the UK remains both real and serious. An attack could take place at any time without warning and any organisation could be directly or indirectly affected.”

Terrorist threats and attacks appear to be more common than in the past, but throughout the 20th century there have been threats from many different types of organisation. Sometimes, people have a legitimate cause – such as equal voting rights – and frustration drives them to use terrorist methods to highlight their cause. Threats are often made against religious groups, by secular or other religious groups who disagree with their beliefs.

Businesses cannot remove all of the threats they may face, but they should possess a plan to protect their most valued assets and prepare their response to major disruptions.  A security plan should be informed, integrated and multi-layered.

The 45 minute Security and Terror Alerts eLearning course, details the types of terrorist and security threats that can affect any working environment. It provides information on recognising the different types of security threats and how best to manage them. Additionally, the importance of implementing an appropriate evacuation process when dealing with a terrorist attack is explained.

Users will understand how to identify the likely targets of security threats. The motivation behind security threats and different types of security threats is also discussed. Security threats can come in many different forms, such as phoned in bomb threats, packages or  parcels containing hazards that may be posted to a specific address or abandoned luggage in public areas.

The Security and Terror Alerts eLearning course outlines what to do when a threatening call is received. Users will learn what type of information should be taken from the call that will support a decision on whether to evacuate. This will then assist the security services in locating the threat and give the police the best chance of catching the culprit.

Users will learn how to implement the” SLAP” and “SALUTE”  processes when dealing with potentially hazardous packages. The most important part of minimising any security threat is being aware of the warning signs as well as being cautious and alert.
